Cancer Relief Fun Day 2023

Cancer Relief 40th Anniversary Fun Day Success!

Last Saturday 20th May we held our first-ever fun day at John Mackintosh Square. The day started off with some live music from the Gibraltar Musicians Association as well as some popular tunes from DJ Rawly to really entice the public to see what was going on.

Then it was o to the fancy dress competition. Where four fantastic children participated in our ‘dress-up as a nurse’ competition which was judged by our very own Chairperson Marisa Desoiza, Miss Gibraltar 2022 Faith Torres, O.W.L. Fashion Designer and Senior Youth Worker Charlene Figueras and Mrs Gibraltar Classic 2022 & Mrs Universe Classic, Angela Traverso. All their costumes were amazing, and the judges could not pick a winner, as they were all winners and worthy of a prize. The judges handed them out to each contestant one by one.

As the day went on, John Mackintosh Square quickly filled up with families joining in on the fun.  We had a variety of activities for kids of all ages ranging from a bouncy castle, face painting, throw a sponge game and some scout games! We also had some wonderful entertainment from local dance groups Stylos Dance Studios and Transitions Dance Academy, all I can say is WOW the choreography was incredible and all eyes were on them!

Aside from activities and entertainment, we were extremely lucky with the weather which meant we needed to ensure everyone was keeping hydrated. We had ‘Here’s Johnny’s’ Ice Cream van there to save the day with some lovely refreshments, as well as a bar from Stagnetto to provide some further drinks. Not to forget the super delicious candy floss kiosk which was a popular choice amongst the children who attended.

We think it is safe to say that our first-ever fun day was more than a success. We have had incredible day and the feedback from our local community was excellent, we could not be happier with the outcome. That is what this fun day was all about, bringing the community together, saying thank you for all the support we receive year in year out and ultimately just have a day of smiles and entertainment.

We would like to say thank you to everyone who attended as well as a huge thank you to everyone who helped make it a success. We are so lucky to live in a place like Gibraltar where the local community go out of their way to help in any way they can. From everyone at team Cancer Relief THANK YOU!
