Cancer Relief Tranquility Garden

As we all know, outdoor space is a rare joy in Gibraltar so, when the MOD offered to help Cancer Relief clear an overgrown area at the back of the Centre, imagine our joy when they uncovered a beautiful little area ripe for creating a tranquility garden and much needed memorial wall. Our aim was to keep the area as close to nature as possible while still making it safe and accessible for our more unwell service users. We started work with the kindness and generosity of the MOD and Interserve. Unfortunately it soon became apparent that the works required to make the area safe were more than we could reasonably ask volunteers to undertake. We were at a loss as to how to pay for such a large job until the fantastic Parasol Foundation came to our rescue and so generously offered to fund the development of the area. Thanks to their generous donation, we were able to enlist the services of a landscape gardener who is working on a beautiful and fitting design for our tranquility garden. It is slow progress due to official requirements and obvious safety measures but we are slowly getting there and hope to begin works before the end of the year. We will keep you updated on our progress but for now we’d like to say a huge thank you to the MOD boys and Interserve for their hard work and understanding of our vision for the area, if it weren’t for you, we would never have embarked on this job! Our final and biggest thanks must go to Parasol Foundation for being so generous, supportive and understanding as we wade through the unfamiliar world of garden landscaping; without you, the garden would be nothing more than a pipe dream. We can’t wait to show it off to you all!
