As part of the Cancer Relief Gibraltar 40th anniversary celebrations this year we held a special event in the first week of April at the Gustavo Bacarisas Gallery in Casemates Square. The “A Walk through our History” exhibition opened its doors to the public after its official launch on the evening of the 4th of April. The opening reception was attended by Sir David Steele (Governor) and Fabian Picardo (Chief Minister) as well as past and present staff, Trustees, and volunteers. The exhibition gives a fantastic overview of the charity’s history from humble beginnings in 1983 to the incredible Centre and charity services we currently have. Demonstrating how we have grown in the past four decades to become one of the largest charities in Gibraltar. It was an incredible celebration of all who helped get us to where we are today and a wonderful opportunity to catch up with old friends and faces and share stories.
The Moorish Castle was also lit up on the 3rd of April in the charity’s colours for the first time ever to commemorate this special anniversary.
The exhibition was only successful in part due to the dedication of our Fundraising team, volunteers and Chairperson Marisa Desoiza who spend many months in the depths of our historical archives piecing together the threads of our history so we could do the story justice and display it in the beautiful detail for the exhibition. Special thanks to the Colorworks team and Pete Baldacchino who patiently listened and guided us throughout the process and delivered above and beyond our expectations. Should you visit the Centre anytime you will still have an opportunity to see sections of the exhibition as they will be displayed in various areas throughout the Centre for the remaining of the celebration year.
